Bridge foundation is the base of a bridge that transmits the load from the substructure (Abutments, piers, retaining walls, etc.) to the soil strata without any failure or not affected by scouring.
The whole structure's load will be carried out by the bridge foundation. After construction of a bridge structure if there is occurred any failure in bridge foundation, the whole structure will be highly affected.
Failure of bridge foundation depends on soil strata, sub-base stability, loading distribution, external impact etc.
